Common Evidentiary Conundrums & Persuasive Asylum Advocacy in Immigration Court

Please join the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies for a free defensive asylum trial advocacy MCLE. This training will involve a mock asylum trial in immigration court proceedings. The focus of the training will be on common objections to documentary evidence and questioning on direct, cross, and re-direct examination. We will also cover laying foundation and authenticating documentary evidence, closing arguments, and strategies for persuasive trial advocacy in asylum and related fear-of-return cases. Interactive participation is highly encouraged and will include break-out groups.

Prerequisite: Participants should already be familiar with substantive asylum law, basic immigration court procedure, and the Federal Rules of Evidence. We will not be reviewing those topics during those trainings.
