6th Grade Library Permission Form
Patton Middle School is happy to offer a diverse collection to our students.  As our students’ interests are quite varied, so are our materials. We recognize that a sixth grade student’s interest may not be as mature as an eighth grade student’s interest. In order to meet the interests of all of our students we do offer some mature offerings, which are categorized as “young adult” books. Prior to purchasing these materials, we read a variety of reviews to ensure that the books are of high quality and appropriate for a middle school audience. We make every effort to designate young adult print books with a “YA” sticker, so that students and parents are aware that the content of these books are intended for a more mature audience.  Via our library curriculum, we teach our students to select books that are of their interest and meet their family’s values.  We would greatly appreciate your efforts to speak to your student regarding the type of material you are comfortable with your child reading.   If you would prefer that your child not be permitted to check out “young adult” material, we are happy to put a “block” on these materials for your child.

Please take the time to complete this Google Survey to communicate with me regarding your preference for the types of materials that your child may access this year. You are of course welcome to change your preferences at any time by simply writing me a quick email at lrafferty@ucfsd.net. Our goal is to provide your students with plenty of options to meet their interests and also respect your wishes as parents.
