Healthy Youth Act Parental Communication
Dear Parents/Guardians of ABSS 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade Students,

The Healthy Youth Act by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2009 requires that all NC Public
Schools teach the Reproductive Health and Safety Curriculum, which is part of the NC Healthful Living Standard Course of Study for seventh, eighth, and ninth grade.

As part of this legislation, parents may review the curriculum and materials (including lesson plans) that will be utilized to implement this requirement. The  summary information of each curricular objective listed below.
Copies are available at each school and the Alamance-Burlington School System administrative offices for parents to review.

In addition,  parents are provided the option to withhold permission for their child's participation in the Reproductive Health and Safety Curriculum. Choosing to opt out of the reproductive health and safety units for your student means that they will receive alternate assignments.

Per ABSS School Board Policy 3540,  this letter serves as notification of your parental right to withhold or withdraw consent for their child’s participation in all reproductive health and safety education instruction.

Instruction is planned to occur in this grading period.  Please complete and return this Healthy Youth Act Parent Choice form below to the school if you wish to withdraw participation for your child.

There is no need to submit this form unless you intend to withdraw consent for your child to receive this instruction.
