Church of the Epiphany in Vacaville and Grace Episcopal Church in Fairfield are co-hosting a Sacred Ground Circle beginning May 5, 2024. Except for the final session, the (mostly)
bi-weekly sessions will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays in a hybrid format: by Zoom and in person at Epiphany Church.
The final session will be a full-day, in-person-only workshop on Saturday, Sept. 21, at either Grace or Epiphany church.
Here are the session dates: Hybrid sessions from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on May 5, May 19, June 2, June 23, July 7, July 21, August 4,
August 18 and Sept. 8; final, in-person only session, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
Note: If you are enrolling in Sacred Ground to fulfill the diocesan requirement for racial reconciliation training every 5 years, be aware that certificates of completion can be given only to those who have successfully completed at least 80 percent of the work, which means you can only miss only two session. (The final, full-day workshop covers two sessions.)
Most materials will be available electronically (videos, articles, etc.) at no cost, but you will need Internet access and the ability to view videos. You will also need access to two books: "Jesus and the Disinherited" by Howard Thurman and "Waking Up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race" by Debby Irving. Both are available from booksellers, such as Amazon and Border's; we may also have access to some books used by previous circle participants.
This Circle will be co-facilitated by the Rev. Katherine Frederick from Grace Church and Karen Nolan from Epiphany; questions may be directed to them at kcruthirds@gmail.com or karen.s.nolan@gmail.com.
