Thank you for registering to judge this national qualifying tournament, hosted by Balmoral Hall online, using the Zoom platform. The Junior Provincial Debate Championship will occur on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Please complete this form, which will confirm your attendance as a judge.
Prior to the live event, judges will receive an email that includes a personalized judge code (like a competitor code), a briefing video, a description of the event, an explanation of the scoring range, and a link to the judging ballot. Watching the briefing video will be essential.
On Sunday, March 14th, the judge will log into the Zoom meeting, rename themselves based on information that will be distributed closer to the event, and view 3 separate debates.
The login time for judges will be at 11:30 AM, with a question and answer period based on the briefing video to follow at 12:10 PM.
There will be a 20 minute break between each round for the judges. At the completion of each round, judges will be able to confer for 5 minutes before submitting a separate ballot for each competition. This information will be repeated in the briefing video for the judges. A total of 12 ballots will need to be submitted by 5:00 PM on March 14th. The last round of debate will end at 5:00 PM.
The entire process of viewing the briefing video, watching the three live debates, and submitting 12 competitor ballots will require approximately 6 hours of your volunteer time.
It is essential that the judge has access to a stable internet and the Zoom application to complete this volunteer opportunity.
If you have any specific questions about what is required of the judges, please email the tournament convenor, Carissa Balcaen, at
cbalcaen@balmoralhall.ca . Please note that all instructions will be re-shared in greater detail with necessary links in a future email during the week of the tournament.
Thank you for sharing your time and supporting the development of our future leaders.
