English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) Parent Nomination
Norte Vista High School is requesting parent nominations for its English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) ballot. If you are interested in placing your name on the ELAC parent ballot, please read below.

WHAT IS THE English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)?
The ELAC advises the school administration and District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC). ELAC performs the following functions:
A. Advises The School Site Council (SSC) regarding development of the Single School Plans for Student Achievement, related to identified needs of English Learners
B. Advises the Principal and staff on the school’s program and services for English Learners.
C. Assists in the development of the school wide needs assessment
D. Assists in the development of the school’s efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance
E. Receives training and training materials, planned in full consultation with ELAC committee members, to assist all ELAC members in carrying out their legal responsibilities.
WHO ARE THE ELAC members?
ELAC is composed a minimum of 3 elected parent members chosen by eligible voting members of the school ELAC. The majority of ELAC membership is composed of parents of English Learner (EL) students. A certificated staff, appointed by the principal, serves as an advisor and a member.
a) Parents of ELs, and b) ELAC Advisor, and c) appointed members, and/or d)school staff or community members
HOW LONG DO PARENT MEMBERS SERVE ON THE ELAC?
All ELAC members are elected to serve for a minimum of a one-year term. All ELAC officers are elected for a minimum of one year.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE ELAC MEET?
The ELAC meets once a month, on the first Friday of the month from 9:30 - 11:00 AM. The meeting dates are:
November 13, 2020; December 4, 2020, January 8, 2021, February 5, 2021, March 5, 2021, April 9, 2021, May 7, 2021
HOW IS THE ELAC SELECTED?
Membership on ELAC is by election. The ELAC is made up of elected members chosen by eligible voting members of the ELAC. Only parents of EL students who are elected as ELAC members may vote. School staff or community members may serve as ELAC members but are not permitted voting rights.
