Zoom Classrooms For the 2024-2025 school year, the Sakura Gakuen Adult Program will utilizing Zoom: https://zoom.us/. for all distance learning class instruction. Please visit the website to set up your free account. Inform your instructor when your account is active. The instructor will send you a link for the class meetings along with a Meeting ID and password. 

Attendance Policy 

• All students are expected to attend class according to the class schedule.

• Attendance is tracked on a weekly basis.

 Participate in class with video and audio on. We want all the students with video on, so we can have virtual “face to face” experience. Audio can be muted as needed or if requested by instructor.

 Join the class at least 5 minutes before class begins. The instructor will allow you into joining the class.

 If you know in advance that you cannot attend class, or are going to be late for class, please contact your instructor.

 Dress Code – students must be modest and appropriate in their attire; no hoodies, etc.

 To limit distractions and interruption to class, only students enrolled may attend and participate in class. No family members, friends, etc., are allowed to sit in during class without a 36 hour advanced request with permission from the instructor.


Mobile Phones & Surrounding Noise 

  Mobile phones should be turned off during every class (unless this is the source to connecting with Zoom). No texting or messaging. Arrangements may be made with the instructor if legitimate circumstances necessitate a change in this policy.

  Please be courteous and set up your location in a quiet environment away from loud or interrupting background noise (television, dogs barking, others talking, etc.).

  When you are not speaking, please set yourself to “mute.” The instructor will ask if there areany questions, please raise your hand, and wait to be called on.

  No eating or gum chewing during class.


Student Rights and Responsibilities 

1. All students have the opportunity to pursue education in a safe atmosphere. 

2. A student shall not be discriminated against because of race, color, religion, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or beliefs. 

3. Official records and information maintained by Sakura Gakuen are treated in a confidential manner. General information about a student will not be released without student's written permission. 


Code of Conduct 

Any student found to have committed misconduct is subject to the disciplinary sanctions outlined in the Discipline Policy section below. Misconduct is defined as but not limited to the following: 

1. Disruption or obstruction of teaching, studying, administration, or other inappropriate activities. The administration reserves the right to determine whether behavior is disruptive, obstructive or inappropriate. 

2. Verbal abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assault, threats, intimidation, harassment, coercion and/or conduct which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any person. The administration reserves the right to determine if an action is violent. 

3. Class information including, email addresses, phone numbers, Zoom passwords/ invitations and any files transmitted are confidential and intended solely for the student. Sharing class material and recording Zoom meetings is prohibited. 

4. Failure to comply with directions of Sakura Gakuen / Buddhist Church of Sacramento administration or law enforcement officers acting in performance of their duties and/or failure to identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so. 

5. Impairment by alcohol, drugs or other substances. 

6. Conduct which is disorderly, lewd, or indecent; breach of peace; or aiding, abetting, or procuring another person to breach the peace of Sakura Gakuen / Buddhist Church of Sacramento 

7. Refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol and eating during Zoom class instruction. 

8. The use of vulgar language is not permitted. The administration reserves the right to determine what language is vulgar. 

9. The use of email to your instructor is for classroom related subjects only. Not for personal use. 


Policy on Sexual Harassment 

Sakura Gakuen does not tolerate harassment of instructors or students. This type of behavior may result in immediate suspension or expulsion from Sakura Gakuen. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, slurs, jokes, and other verbal, graphic or physical conduct relating to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, age, or disabilities. If you feel that you are being harassed in the above manner, you should notify your instructor or the administration immediately. Your complaint will be kept as confidential as possible, and you will not be penalized in any way for reporting such conduct. Please do not assume that the Sakura Gakuen is aware of your problem. It is your responsibility to bring your complaints and concerns to our attention so that we can help resolve them. 

Policy of Discipline 

Sakura Gakuen reserves the right to administer disciplinary action to any student who is found to violate the above code of conduct. The form of discipline will be determined by the judged severity of the conduct by the administration. Disciplinary action may be given in one of the following forms: 

1. Warning. A written warning may be given to any student by an instructor or administrator who determines that a certain behavior violates the code of conduct in some form. If the violation is not corrected, the student may then be subject to suspension or expulsion. 

2. Suspension. A student’s enrollment in Sakura Gakuen’s program may be suspended for the duration of a term if that student’s behavior has been determined by the administration to be a violation of the code of conduct. 

3. Expulsion. The administration reserves the right to expel any student for violations of the code of conduct as stated in this school rules and guidelines handout. That student will not be admitted into any of Sakura Gakuen’s programs without receiving a favorable appeal in his/her case by the administration. 


Student Guideline Acknowledgement 

I have read the guidelines and understand all the rules and expectations. I am 18 years old or older at the time of the first day of class. I agree to be responsible for following all of the rules and expectations of the school and understand there will be consequences for failing to follow the requirements. I understand that guidelines may be amended during the year without notice. The administration will notify students in writing, where possible, of any changes to the guidelines as soon as is practical.
