The Rotary Club of St Andrews Quiz
Welcome to the Rotary Club of St Andrews Quiz challenging you to find some of the many features and facts about St Andrews, as you enjoy your walk around the town.
Your walk starts in the lovely Kinburn Park which has some interesting history in itself and today is your starting point.
Most directional clues are given but you may also want to make use of a town map. It should take you about 80-90 minutes but you could spread over the two days and you might like to have a coffee or tea on the way around.
Please take care when crossing the roads and keep away from the harbour edge. It is not a race so take as long as you need.

At Kinburn House, find the date on which the clock above you, was donated to the town.
Walk past the tennis courts as you leave the park, and head for the busy roundabout, there look for this very obviously named road. What is it?
Use the pedestrian crossing to get to the church facing you and tell us the date on the steeple?
Just past the entrances to the church, an imposing street seems to have two names. Give us both of them please.
Go along this street to find Abbottsford Crescent behind the park. Who was the famous occupant of number 8 and when was he born?
Keeping the park to your right, exit the Crescent onto Playfair Terrace, where you will find a pedestrian crossing a little way up the hill. Use the crossing, then go halfway down the hill to find the name on the plaque of this inventor of a mine detector.
Continue down the hill to give us the name of the St Andrews golfer who gives his name to this corner golf shop.
Head towards the sea and tell us the name of this world famous golfing establishment on your left.
 At the Golf Museum a little further on tell us how many golfer’s faces are on the museum wall?
Turn back, walk up the hill to give us the first two names on the obelisk please.
Pass a French sounding hotel, what is it?
Spot the Royal, with a handbag, looking out of this window.
Follow the tree lined road and name which school is located in St Katharine’s Lodge.
On the same side find what chemical structures did Sir James Irvine investigate near this spot?
On the other side of the road, “Sieges, Violent Murders and Plots” are promised in this ancient land mark. What is it?
Name the Martyr executed on the spot nearby.
Go along the path at East Scores to Kirkhill and tell us the name on the wall of this building.
Walk along the clifftops to the foundations of this historic church on the green overlooking the harbour.  When were they rediscovered?
At the bottom of the steep hill, which shipping hazard gives its name to this former tavern?
Walk along the harbour side, with the café on your left, spot some benches, the first of which remembers a dentist, who was Kate Kennedy in 1930. His name please.
Use the steps next to the arch onto The Pends and give us the name of the Cemetery a little way up the hill.
Carry on up the hill, to tell us when St Leonard’s Hospice become St Leonard’s College?
Exit The Pends through the arches, past the Cathedral gates, to give us the name of the Royal Naval Air Service person commemorated on this Memorial.
Now go along North Street - Cross North Castle Street to find, which famous sailor does the barometer on the corner recognise?
Walk further to find a lodge that shares its name with a famous composer.
Just before you reach this historic chapel, which famous American is celebrated on this plaque?
Name the martyr whose initials are nearby.
 Use the crossing to get to College Street. A famous station’s clock appears above your head. Which station is it?
Take care when crossing Market Street onto Church Street where delicious cakes and bread can be bought from this famous shop.
Carry on to the end of Church Street then use the pedestrian crossing nearby to find the nationality of the soldier on the Town Hall wall.
Go past the Bank of Scotland and then tell us the name of this ruin.
Keep going and give us the two restoration dates for this classic Scottish close.
Further on find who commissioned the building of this Port in 1589?
 Cross the road at the Islands in front of you and tell us the fate of Gavin Douglas in 1522, on this plaque.
