The LEAD Committee was established by the Temerty Faculty’s Office of Inclusion and Diversity (OID) to provide TFoM learners interested in equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice with opportunity and space to:
- share equity work/insights with a supportive community
- access information and resources to pursue Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (EDI)-based programming, research and scholarship
- provide input on/contribute to equity initiatives, programs and events run by the OID
- discuss and respond to EDI concerns of the community
- and more!
All Temerty Faculty of Medicine learners with an interest in equity are eligible to join, including undergraduate and graduate students in Clinical, Rehab, and Basic Sciences programs, residents, fellows, post-doc fellows, and other trainees.
As part of the working groups executive team, you will be co-leading the working group projects over the upcoming academic year (September 2022-April 2023). You are expected to commit to a minimum of 2-4 hours a week (including meeting times), with increased hours close to events (e.g Anti-O-Symposium)
Symposium Working Group: Planning the learner-led conference that will uncover and explore how to dismantle forms of systemic oppression in health care services, research, and education.
Interfaculty Connections: Building relationships and connections with the different groups within the faculty; departments, graduate student associations, student co-curricular groups (particularly those focused on advocacy and justice, but not exclusively). Focused outreach to build the strength and representation of LEAD, and about promoting and sharing the justice work of other groups.
Learner experience: Identifying EDI related gaps in teaching, curriculum and related academic intiatives across the faculty of medicin (e.g identifying gaps in supporting students with disabilities). The particular projects will be decided by members and their shared interests.
