2 weeks - sailors 7 - 15 years old can take part in the morning program, 11+ in the afternoon. New sailors who are 11+ should contact Mary Kalich at 917-334-6639 to discuss if they should register for the morning or afternoon.

All sailors will learn to sail on a variety of different types of boats including: Optis, Sunfish, 420’s, and Lasers (according to their ability). Instructors will assign sailors to boats each day during lessons.

Director of program will place sailors into leveled classes according to his or her skill level and experience. Mobility between the sessions may become necessary as sailors progress. Age requirements are ages by December 31, 2022.

Boat Storage Policy

All members private boats will be assigned a rack; each boat must be returned to the assigned rack at the end of each sailing lesson or private use. Please list the first name of the sailor sailing the boat, the type of boat, name of boat (if any), boat color, sail color and sail number.

Using a Club Boat Policy:
a. For the first 2 years that a child takes lessons at MYC, they may use a club boat by paying the “Club Boat Fee” which is $350 more than the “Own Boat Fee.” Starting at their 3rd year in the program, each sailor must have their own boat. If a sailor does not have their own boat for their 3rd year, the sailing fee will be a “3+ year Club Boat Fee” which is a $1,000 charge on top of the “Own Boat” fee.

b. For 3+ yr sailors that “switch” to a new boat type (eg from an Opti to a Sunfish, or from an Opti to a Laser, etc.), there will be a one year grace period during which they can “try out” the new boat type and only have to pay the “Club Boat” fee, not the “3+ year Club Boat Fee.” 3+ year sailors that have been sailing a 420 for 2+ years are not expected to purchase a 420; they will pay the “420 Club Boat” fee which is $500 more than the “Own Boat” fee.
