Subteams
Within each team, there are roughly 3-4 subteams which the team is split into, here are the main subteams. The option you choose is not permanent and you can change if you decide you don't like it. This is just for us to adequately split up the teams so each team has participants from each subteam. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THESE SUBTEAMS.

Mechanical Design/Engineering - This is the aspect of the team which is involved in the actual building and brainstorming of the robots, and you will learn about the different parts and tools that go into building the robot, and learn the design process that engineers go through in the real world when building something themselves.

CAD (Computer-Aided Design) - We recommend this be something that you do along with another aspect of the team, although it is the process of building the robot on a computer program called CAD. This can also be used to create custom parts that the robot may need and can be 3D printed.

Software Development/Programming - This is the coding of the autonomous and drive-train of the robot, and is how the robot is able to move and perform actions. We recommend that people interested in programming have some previous experience in Java, as this is the coding language that FIRST uses. If you want to get some foundational knowledge about programming, we recommend that you take AP Computer Science on FLVS.

Engineering Notebook/Documentation - If you aren't good at building or programming, notebook is a good alternative and is a very important part of the season. It is a requirement and the main basis for awards, which encompass 50% of the slots that can qualify a team for States or Worlds. You would be a part of the process of documenting the season of your team, keeping track of whats done in meetings, competitions, and the design process of the robot.

What Aspect of the Team are you Interested in? *
Required
PHUHS Robotics will be having a Connect Committee this year responsible for fundraising and outreach events. This will be a completely optional, team-independent commitment where members will meet periodically during club meeting times to work on community fundraising efforts. Would you be interested in joining? *
(Optional) Name someone you would want to be on a team with (Keep in mind while it maybe fun to work with friends, that may also make it harder to get work done):
(Optional) Name a second person you would like to be on a team with:
Applicant Essay Portion
This portion we require for you to give us in depth responses and give as much detail as you can so we can best place you in a team where you would be best fit. These questions are not a deciding factor of whether or not you are accepted into the club, everyone is accepted as long as they fill out the membership form and pay the requires dues. These questions are only to help us place you in a team that is most beneficial for you, so please answer honestly and completely.
Do you have any prior experience with any of the subteams that we listed, or any hobbies/interest that you feel would be helpful to the club or for a team? If so, please specify your level of experience. *
Are you involved in any other organizations, extra-curricular activities, or sports? Please indicate if any of these clubs conflict with the Robotics season. The season usually runs from around August to February, but may run longer due to the coronavirus moving competitions later. Currently, each team will meet for 1 hour per week in room 11-203. Traditionally, the meetings are on Wednesday and Fridays from 2-5 pm in room 11-203. *
There is a yearly contribution of $50 per member which is REQUIRED. Are you willing to pay this dues fee (If you cannot afford it and still want to join, are you going to speak to a mentor about an arrangement?). All checks must be made out to PHUHS. *
Student Agreement
Carefully read the following agreements with your parent and indicate that you both understand and agree to them. If you fail to follow these agreements throughout the season, your membership to the club could be voided and your club dues will NOT be refunded.
I realize that no problem has only one solution, and that a successful team is one which cooperates by considering everyone’s solution and ideas. I will not bash anyone’s ideas, and will listen to other team members and support and encourage them. *
I agree to cooperate on whatever solution the team chooses, even if it is not my first choice. *
I agree that my behavior at meetings and tournaments will be constructive and above reproach, and I will abide by FIRST Core Values at all times, especially Gracious Professionalism. *
I will be responsive and responsible in communications with the PHUHS Robotics Club. This includes checking my email regularly. *
I understand that my position on the team is a privilege and that if I am disruptive or disrespectful to others at meetings or tournaments, or violate the terms of this agreement, I may be asked to leave. *
I understand that the construction of a robot is a potentially dangerous activity and agree to follow all safety procedures mandated by the club. *
I acknowledge that, though safety measures are intended to prevent accidents, they may happen. Neither the PHUHS Robotics Club, nor Palm Harbor University High School, nor Pinellas County Schools will be held accountable for any injury or destruction/loss of property that may occur. *
(Student) Please type out your name, as this acts as an electronic signature that you understand the agreements that you must follow and a failure to comply may result in your dismissal from the club with no refund of club dues. *
(Parent) Please type out your name, as this acts as an electronic signature that you understand the agreements your child must follow and a failure to comply may result in dismissal from the club with no refund of club dues. *
