Tijdens de workshop Latijns-Amerikaanse Arpilleras ga je de techniek te leren om een uniek kunstwerk te creëren. Je hoeft geen kunstenaar te zijn, maar gewoon je laten inspireren door je dromen, gevoelens en verlangens. Bovenal willen wij je uitnodigen om jouw verbeelding en creativiteit te uiten, door middel van naalden, stoffen en draden. Samen gaan we een collectief kunstwerk creëren waarin de gemeenschappelijke verhalen en ervaringen worden gedeeld met harmonie en respect. Zo willen we onze gemeenschappelijke ruimte, of het nu het Wijkcentrum d'Oude Stadt, de buurt of zelfs de stad Amsterdam is, vertegenwoordigen met haar symbolen, kleuren en vormen. Om deel te nemen aan deze workshop is het niet nodig om voorkennis te hebben van naaien of borduren.
Benodigheden:
Stukken kleurrijke stof (idealiter niet elastisch of te stijf). Het idee is om ze opnieuw te bekleden van gebruikelijk kleding.
Naai- en/of borduurgaren en naalden.
Schaar.
Wol.
Nylon slipjes en synthetisch katoen (als je het hebt).
Vrije toegang, beperkte plaatsen .
Arpillera is een textieltechniek die in 1960 werd gecreëerd door de Chileense kunstenaar en volkszanger Violeta Parra. Zij maakte borduurwerken op de rustieke stoffen waarmee de zakken voor landbouwproducten werden gemaakt. Het zou later, in de jaren 70 en 80, een lange populaire textieltraditie worden die door honderden vrouwen in Chili werd gecultiveerd als een daad van verzet en aanklacht tegen de dictatuur van Pinochet. Deze "geborduurde foto's" werden een levende getuigenis van de mensenrechtenschendingen tijdens de dictatuur, maar ook een vorm van emotionele bedwang tegenover de onvermoeibare strijd voor waarheid en sociale rechtvaardigheid. Hedendaags wordt deze techniek door vrouwen en kunstenaars in heel Latijns-Amerika gebruikt.

During the Latin Arpilleras workshop, you will learn the technique to create a unique work of art. You don't have to be an artist, just be inspired by your dreams, feelings and desires. Above all, we want you to express your imagination and creativity, through needles, fabrics and threads. Together, we will create a collective work of art in which common stories and experiences are shared with harmony and respect. In this way, we want to represent our common space, be it the Wijkcentrum d'Oude Stadt, the neighbourhood or even the city of Amsterdam, with its symbols, colours and shapes. To participate in this workshop, it is not necessary to have prior knowledge of sewing or embroidery.
Materials needed:
Pieces of coloured fabric (ideally, they should not be elastic or too rigid). The idea is to reuse fabrics and textiles that you already have at home.
Sewing and/or embroidery thread and needles
Wool.
(If you have) Nylon panties and synthetic cotton.
Arpillera is a textile technique created in 1960 by Chilean artist and folk singer Violeta Parra. She created embroideries on the rustic fabrics used to make bags for agricultural products. In the 70s and 80s, it became a long popular textile tradition cultivated by hundreds of women in Chile as an act of resistance and denunciation during the Pinochet dictatorship. These "embroidered pictures" became a living testimony of the human rights violations during the dictatorship, but also a form of emotional restraint in the face of the tireless struggle for truth and social justice. Nowadays, this technique is used by women and artists across Latin America.
