Piranhas Basketball | Team Trials Application Form: 2023/24 Season
Below are the details and conditions for players wishing to be considered for team trials for the upcoming 2023/24 Dorset Basketball Association 'Local League' season.

You and your player will need to understand and agree to these conditions, and submit a response to the coaching team, via this form. There is no exception to this.

The deadline for applications is 8pm Sunday 28th May. 

By 20:00 Thursday 1st June, invitations along with further trials details will go out based on who the coaches wish to take forward from the applications received.

Important: The coaching team are expecting to receive many application forms; more than the permitted spaces each team will have available for trials. Therefore submitting an application form does not guarantee a space in team trials. Due to the expected interest this season, the coaching team may not be able to reply to all applications received. Therefore if you have not heard from Coach John by 20:00 Thursday 1st June, you should consider your player's application unsuccessful on this occasion.

The application has 25 questions and will take around 15-20 minutes to complete. This MUST also be completed with your player, not on your own.

- Speed: on a typical day should be able to sprint the Bourne Academy gym length 5 times in 60 seconds.

7) In their own words, what value does your player feel they can add to one of our teams this coming season? This could be what they feel sets them apart from other potential applicants (like a specific skill or attribute)

8) My player will be able to attend at least 3 of the 4 trial dates in June (4th, 11th, 18th, 25th). I understand that a 'no-show' to any 2 dates will eliminate them from the process.  *

9) I understand that trials last 1hr per session and that my player needs to be 'basketball ready' and on court by 5 minutes past the session start time in order to participate in that session. To be clear; 5 minutes late = no entry to the session and counts towards a 'no-show'. *

10) I feel my player is currently or shall be of a fitness/health level suitable for the June trials, regular team training and match conditions as far as reasonably possible. *

11) Please list any existing medical or physical conditions/long term injuries, even if previously stated during original membership application, so that the coaches have the most up to date information to hand during trials. If none state 'NONE' *
12) I understand that my player will be pushed hard during June trials by the coaches, with higher intensity drills throughout. *

13) I understand that June trials are player only sessions. No spectators are allowed in the gym. *

14) I understand that team trials will consist of more players than will be selected for the team. i.e.: 
- U10s and U12s will have 18 players in trials for 10 spaces. 
- U14s, U16s and U18s will have 20 players in trials for 12 spaces. 
After trials, the remaining players will be offered a space in regular training groups in discussion with yourself/lead parent and Coach John

15) I understand that IF my player becomes a team member, from July their regular team training will be/continue to be Sunday afternoons. *

16) My player understands IF they become part of a team, that there will be several away matches during the regular DBA season to Dorset based venues, and that they will need to arrange transport/be able to attend these matches. (Dates TBC by September) *

17) My player understands that IF they are selected for a team, they will need to be able to achieve a minimum 75% attendance AVERAGE to both training and matches otherwise their position in the team will be under review. If injured (and physically possible), we still expect your player to attend to watch and learn. *

18) My player understands that IF they are selected for a team, they will need to practice for at least 1hr per week average outside the club to maintain and improve quality in their own skills. *

19) I understand that IF selected for a team that the monthly player subs, based on 1 x 1hr regular Sunday training and all scheduled DBA matches, will be £35 from 1st July onwards. This includes all regular match fees and licenses. *

20) I understand that my player will need to commit to fully understanding and be able to put into practice elements from the 'Playbook' (protected link on the website) from September. This includes knowing what to do/how to run their own position (e.g. the '1' / 'Point Guard' position) and also have a good level of understanding of the other positions. Note: the Playbook details will be shared with you/your player in July only IF your player is selected for a team. *

21) My player understands that when playing a DBA match, their 'minutes' (time on court) will be largely based on attendance and performance in training up to that match, and performance during that match. To be clear - not all players will get the same amount of court time in matches. *

22) I understand that IF my player is accepted for a team, that a mobile number will need to be provided for the relevant team's WhatsApp group. Note: This would need to be a lead parent/guardian's mobile number if under 16 years old. *

23) I understand that during trials my player will have their headshot picture taken for a Basketball England license, IF they become part of a team. *

24) I understand that IF my player is accepted for a team, that pictures and videos of DBA games will be recorded and footage of games may be added to DBA clubs social media channels. This includes the Piranhas YouTube channel ('unlisted' links). As such, your player could be included and recognisable in the footage. *
