Pledge to Not Attend or Support IFC/NPC Events
PLEASE READ!!

A very important part of the abolition movement is the personal decision to remove yourself from interactions with White Greek Life Organizations. We must stop supporting the racism, homophobia, ableism, sexism, antisemitism, classism, xenophobia, and rape culture perpetrated by IFC/NPC organizations. While you may not be affiliated or have recently disaffiliated from the system, attending events held by these organizations maintains their power. By taking this pledge, you are committing to actively opposing the system by removing yourself from it altogether. Staying in the system to reform it is not enough.

In addition to not attending IFC/NPC events due to the discriminatory nature of their organizations, taking this pledge is a way to commit yourself to maintain a safe and healthy environment for Richmond students. Going to super-spreader events like fraternity parties, in the midst of a pandemic, shows a blatant disregard for the safety and wellbeing of all students, staff, and faculty on campus and in the Richmond area. This pandemic has also been disproportionately deadly to Black and Latinx Americans, thus your participation in spreading the virus compounds on the racist inequities upheld by the Greek system. Please consider taking the pledge now.

We acknowledge that taking this pledge will not solve everything. In taking this pledge, you need to also commit yourself to making the changes that may seem small but will overall work towards a more inclusive Richmond community. Sit in a different room in dhall. Join clubs to engage in philanthropy and social activism work. Talk to individuals who come from different backgrounds than you. Oppose injustice and discrimination imposed by peers and administrators. Make frequent and active decisions to create a campus culture that is inclusive and a safe space for all.
