Registration: Virginia High School Ethics Bowl - Dec 7, 2019
As Coordinator for the Virginia High School Ethics Bowl, I invite you to consider coaching an Ethics Bowl team from your school to participate in the Virginia High School Ethics Bowl National Qualifying Event.  Registration is open to a maximum of ten teams this year, and the Virginia High School Ethics Bowl proudly welcomes teams of 9-12 grade students from public and independent schools. The tournament will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at The Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia, in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Philosophy.

The Virginia High School Ethics Bowl is an annual qualifying event for the National High School Ethics Bowl, to be held at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through their Parr Center for Ethics.

In case you are not familiar with Ethics Bowls, here is a basic explanation:

Student teams will compete by presenting a position in response to questions about real-world cases, with a heavy emphasis on the intersection of ethics with economics and public policy decision making. The teams will articulate and defend their positions, thinking through the issues and giving special attention to the moral aspects of the case. The competition in the Ethics Bowl lies solely in how clearly and wisely a team can state its position; unlike a traditional debate, the purpose is clarity of thought - reasonableness over mere rhetoric.  The final round will include the two teams who have emerged out of competing in our previous rounds of competition.

Our website is http://www.collegiate-va.org/Page/Ethics-Bowl.  For more information, cases, rules and guidelines, please see http://nhseb.unc.edu.

Each school will need to register with the National High School Ethics Bowl, at http://nhseb.unc.edu/ and their official fee is $125.00 per school.  Each school will also need to register for each team member via Collegiate School, at a cost of $75 per team.  Once we've received your form, we'll follow up regarding payment.

We are very pleased to be hosting the sixth annual National Qualifying Event in Virginia, and we hope you'll join us.  Times for the event will be determined based on the number of participating schools, as it's a tournament.

Thank you for your interest,

In the event that we have an odd number of schools register, I would be interested in compiling a second team of students for competition. *
I understand that if multiple schools offer, the school will be chosen at random.
I understand that to complete my registration, I'll need to go enter follow through with payment in advance of $75 to the Virginia High School Ethics Bowl as well as payment of $125 for the school with the National High School Ethics Bowl, once it's open, indicating that our school will participate at the Virginia High School Ethics Bowl. I'll be sure to indicate my home school and regional bowl in the field under “special instructions.”   *
Registration with the NHSEB may not yet be open, but the site is: http://nhseb.unc.edu. The official size of this regional Bowl is determined by the number of qualifying high schools that have paid $125 to NHSEB by the deadline.  Schools pay online here: http://nhseb.unc.edu/local/registration/
