We are the Friends of the Mahicantuck, a community collective under the guidance of Sachem HawkStorm of the Schaghticoke First Nations.
We are fighting to protect a parcel of waterfront forest along the Hudson River in Lansingburgh (Troy, NY), located at 1011 2nd Ave.
This land is currently under threat of development, and is well known in the community as a site of historical and cultural significance to the Schaghticoke First Nations, as well as the Munsee and Lenape Nations, indigenous peoples of the Mahicantuck River Valley.
The development threatens to pave over the history of the Mahican people and to destroy the last remaining natural, untouched forest on Troy’s Hudson River waterfront.
WE NOW NEED YOUR HELP!
The City of Troy will soon take action to grant a proposed change in zoning from R-1 to allow the development to move forward!
