GYM ASB Covenant has been pasted below:
Part 1: Vision and Expectations
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10
Vision Statement and Purpose:
The GYM Student Leadership (ASB) exists to represent and serve the study body of the Garden Youth Ministry and to be student leaders, by embodying the humility of Christ. (Philippians 2:1-8)
Being part of GYM ASB means that you are a CONSISTENT face in GYM. So at the very least, you are expected to:
Attend GYM Fridays and Sundays consistently, and make every effort to attend special events, SG hangouts and retreats
Welcome new students and befriend those who are not as plugged in (no one stands/sits alone in GYM!)
Being part of ASB means that you are a student leader, not that it elevates you to being a “better Christian” or “better than other GYM students”, but having the mindset that it is a privilege to SERVE your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Other expectations of GYM ASB:
Be on time for GYM Friday worship, i.e., be in the sanctuary by 7:30pm
Come earlier for special events setup and staying behind later for cleanup (especially for ASB hosted events such as Spirit Month)
Be an active participant in GYM Sunday service (engaging in discussions, encouraging peers to follow along with guided activities/response, etc)
Help out with GYM Sunday setup (on rotations schedule, at least 2-3x a semester)
Take initiative/be proactive in SGs (i.e., volunteering to close in prayer, engaging in discussions)
Remind SG group chat weekly of GYM events, GYM Friday meetings
Reach out to students in SGs, especially those who are not as plugged in
Follow GYM expectations (Be Reverent, Be Respectful, Be Present) at all times --this includes respecting the speaker, whoever it is, and being fully present without any distractions, including phones. This also includes being respectful in interactions with others, whether in-person or virtual, and at church and outside of church
Attend ASB meetings 2x a month (1st Friday of the month and 3rd Sunday of the month) Fridays from 9:35-10:20PM after GYM, and Sundays from 12:30-2:00PM after service
First ASB meeting for the new cohort of GYM ASB will be on Sunday, August 25(after service)
Attend ASB 1-Night Retreat on Aug 30-31st, 2024 (Friday afternoon ~4:/4:30pm until Saturday morning ~10:30am)
Support GYM instagram activity (i.e. liking, commenting, sharing posts) if on social media
Part 2: Commitment
By joining the GYM Student Leadership, I am committing to:
Communicate with God on a regular basis/pursue growth in my relationship with God
Pursue integrity in all parts of my life
Come under the leadership and authority of the youth pastor/director and GYM leaders
Avoid situations that may compromise my faith
Do everything possible to help others follow Jesus, leading by example (language, attitude, etc)
Make every effort to invite friends outside of church to GYM
See correction/feedback from leaders as a learning experience and not a rejection of my worth as a child of God
Regularly check messages/emails from youth pastor and respond in a timely manner
Alert youth pastor as soon as possible and try my best to find a replacement if I cannot serve on a scheduled day
Engage in the planning and prepping for activities/events that ASB hosts
ASB Student Covenant Agreement:
Read through the covenant and make sure you are able to follow all GYM ASB expectations. Type your full name below as an electronic signature. This electronic signature below indicates that you have read the covenant and have agreed to all the expectations and commitment of being part of GYM ASB. I also understand that if I am not selected this year, that does not indicate anything about my value or worth. I understand that space is limited and ASB is a big commitment.
