Piedmont Elementary Tri-School Community Care Agreement
Our ability to reopen Piedmont Unified Schools, and keep them open, is dependent upon community cooperation and coordination to keep the number of COVID-19 cases low. In accordance with the Piedmont Unified School District’s mission to provide a high quality education and to help our students and their families reduce their risk of contracting COVID-19, we ask that you partner with us in committing to keeping our community safe.

It is essential that all members of the PUSD community pledge to maintain the health and safety standards outlined below. We ask that all Piedmont elementary school families review the following guidelines and acknowledge their receipt before returning to school for hybrid learning:

What elementary school will your child be attending? *
Required
Follow PUSD, Alameda County (https://covid-19.acgov.org/health-safety.page?), and California public health requirements (https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/CDPH%20Document%20Library/COVID-19/Consolidated_Schools_Guidance.pdf) when on and off campus, including but not limited to: *
Required
Perform a morning temperature check, answer screening questions accurately and honestly, and complete the PUSD Daily Health Screener prior to sending your child to school each day. *
Required
If you or someone in your household has been exposed to COVID-19, it is critical that the exposed person quarantines (https://covid-19.acgov.org/isolation-quarantine) for 14 days. Understand that the infectious period for COVID-19 is likely 2-14 days following exposure (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-guidance-management-patients.html), symptoms typically develop on days 5-7, and people can be infectious even if they are asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic. *
Required
Keep your child isolated at home (https://covid-19.acgov.org/isolation-quarantine) when they are exhibiting any of the COVID-19 symptoms below: *
Required
If your child is positive for COVID-19 or is presumed positive, they must isolate at home. For more information on how to isolate at home due to COVID-19 diagnosis see the Alameda County Public Health Department instructions (https://covid-19.acgov.org/covid19-assets/docs/isolation-quarantine/home-isolation-and-quarantine-instructions-for-people-with-coronavirus-eng-2020.12.22.pdf) on how to Isolate at home.
Refrain from giving your child fever-reducing medicine or other medications to mask potential COVID-19 symptoms before sending them to school. *
Required
Realize that the schools will have a low threshold to send students home; any potential COVID-19 symptoms will result in a child being immediately sent home from school and quarantined. Be prepared to pick up your student within 30 minutes of a call notifying you that s/he is ill. We ask families to have two contacts as back-up in case parents are not available for immediate pick up. *
Required
Communicate immediately with the school office at your individual elementary school about direct exposure to COVID-19 or a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 for your child and/or someone living in your household. Our district health clerks can be reached at: healthclerks@piedmont.k12.ca.us  *
Required
Adhere to the school's requirements for your child(ren)’s return to school after their sickness, exposure to, or diagnosed case of COVID-19, which will be based on individual evaluation by our district nurses and health clerks. *
Required
Follow California public health guidelines (https://covid19.ca.gov/travel/) regarding travel. Moreover, follow CDC travel guidelines (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html) and try to avoid activities or situations that can increase your risk of exposure to COVID-19. For returning from travel please follow the Alameda County Public Health Department guidelines for returning travelers (https://covid-19.acgov.org/covid19-assets/docs/health-safety/guidance-for-returning-travelers.pdf). *
Required
Avoid high risk social gatherings (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/large-events/considerations-for-events-gatherings.html) that would increase exposure to COVID-19.
Adhere to Alameda County Public Health Department guidance (https://covid-19.acgov.org/schools) for extra-curricular activities and cohorts. More guidance on cohort recommendations will be published and available in the coming weeks. *
Required
As we must close down a school site if there are 3 or more positive cases, we must all uphold the Community Care Agreement. Violating PUSD rules can result in students not being allowed to attend on-campus classes or any school-related events, and widespread adherence to the principles of this Community Care Agreement is what will keep our schools safe and open. *
Required
Recognize that exposures to COVID-19 are anticipated to occur within the Piedmont community, and we expect our families to work collaboratively with our school staff, district nurses, and health clerks to appropriately mitigate the spread of COVID and prevent further exposures from occurring.
The science behind COVID-19 best practices is evolving rapidly. We will continue to keep this Community Care Agreement up-to-date with the latest CDC, CDPH and ACPHD protocols and policies.
