You will need your child's Gospel Weekly for this lesson.
This week we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday, December 8th.  Explain to your child that God sent a messenger (the Angel Gabriel) to Mary to announce that she was going to become Jesus' mother.  
Give your child their Gospel Weekly and help them find page 2.  
Ask: Have your child describe the pictures on page 2.  (A woman sitting reading a book.  An angel is next to her with a flower.) *
Ask: What is happening between the angel and the woman in the scenes?  (Perhaps the angel has already spoken, and the woman is thinking about it.  Perhaps the woman read something in the book that made her pause to think.) *
Have your child put their Gospel Weekly down and read this story to them.  
One day a woman named Mary was praying and reading.  Suddenly, an angel was standing by her.  "Hail Mary," the angel said.  "The Lord is with you."  Mary was worried.  What did the angel want?  "Don't be afraid, Mary," the angel said.  "God is very pleased with you.  You will be the mother of Jesus, God's Son."

Mary said, "How can this happen?"  The angel said: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you.  Nothing is impossible for God."  Mary thought she had asked enough questions.  "I am happy to do what God wants," she told the angel.
Read through the story again, this time, have your child point to the scene for each part of the story. *
