Submission Categories
Evolution D.C. publishes several different types of posts, including:

  • Collection Stories: research-based posts that highlight an object from the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection. Open to undergraduate and graduate students in any field of study. Articles should be between 300-600 words.
  • Creative Posts: photo essays, poems, and other creative expressions centering objects from the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection. Submissions should be no longer than 600 words and are open to both undergraduate and graduate students following consultation with the Washingtoniana curator.
  • From the Reading Room: brief news stories on upcoming museum projects, exhibitions, staff updates, and other happenings at the Albert H. Small Center for National Capital Area Studies. Assignments are only open to GW graduate students. 
  • D.C. History Community Interviews: edited transcripts of interviews conducted in person or virtually with D.C. history professionals (e.g., historian, professor, curator, etc.). Applicants, undergraduate or graduate, will be paired with a professional and supplied with questions to choose from. Posts should be no longer than 1,000 words.
