In honor of Yale’s Climate Action Month, the Yale College Council (YCC), the Yale Student Environmental Coalition (YSEC), and the Yale Office of Sustainability & Sustainability Liaisons are kicking off our monthly series of Climate Action Pledges to encourage personal commitments to climate action.

We’re encouraging Yalies to take on a more active role in combating the climate crisis. Of course, this pledge does not aim to distract from the urgent need for sustained and powerful environmental reform at other levels: there is much more robust work to be done to combat climate change and environmental injustice. Still, every individual action makes a difference.

Vote this Tuesday, November 3 in the 2020 election (if I'm eligible), and encourage at least 1 other friend to vote as well. Visit YaleVotes for more information on how to vote, no matter where you are.

Explore and reflect on the local places and green spaces that matter to me, and the ways I can take action in my community to protect them. I will consider sharing my Climate Story on the Yale Community Climate StoryMap (linked below).

Reduce my energy consumption by unplugging all electronics and appliances when not in use, turning off my lights whenever I leave my room, and layering up before deciding to turn on the heat. I might visit Yale Sustainability’s website for more ideas for saving energy (linked below).
