Steel City Hacks Volunteer Registration Form
Hello! Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer mentor for Steel City Hacks!

Steel City Hacks is a free, 48-hour, online hackathon for middle and high school students. Through Steel City Hacks, we hope to encourage middle and high school students to use computer science to engage with their community and devise solutions to a variety of problems. All students are encouraged to participate, regardless of skill level. Throughout the competition, we will be holding various workshops and seminars for interested students to build their proficiency in a variety of frameworks/services and meet and connect with students of similar interests. We will also have industry professionals available to mentor and guide you along the way so no experience is required.

As a volunteer mentor, you'd primarily be on stand by in the "mentor" channel in our hackathon discord. There, students who need help or guidance can DM you for anything they need. We will have slots of times when mentorship will be available, and you will receive volunteer hours for all of the slots.

About the Organization:
Steel City Codes aims to provide cost-free educational opportunities in computer science (CS) to all students of all backgrounds, with a focus on underprivileged and underrepresented students in the field.

Not all schools offer CS classes due to a lack of knowledge, funding, or resources in general. Because of this, students often lack exposure to CS and miss out on opportunities to learn or further pursue their interests in technology-based disciplines.

Steel City Codes was designed to fill this void and give students this exposure early on. Our main offerings include cost-free summer camps, after-school chapters, virtual workshops, and other opportunities that allow elementary and middle school students to gain proficiency in a variety of practical coding languages, including Python and Java.
