HEY! Thank you so much for considering hosting a show at your house! I'm super excited to get to talk more about this with you. Here is a quick overview of what a House show would look like.
Simply put, a house concert is a music performance in someone’s home, presented by a host who does not profit from the event financially, but has the opportunity to bring great music to their city/neighborhood. Traditionally, artists are paid by donations requested from each attendee or ticket sales provided that the home host and the artist agree on ticketing the event. Some house concerts are invitation-only, but this needs to be agreed upon by the host and the artist as it may affect the number of donations received or tickets sold. House concerts are a great way to collaborate with artists you love. All who attend these shows will leave with a special connection to the artist and the host in ways a typical music venue often can't accomplish.
Most house concerts are:
- held indoors
- attended by 15-70 people
- put on inexpensively. Hosts spend from $50 – $125 on food and beverage, extra toilet paper, and so forth. Attendee donations pay the performer.
- known to include light snacks, drinks, or a pot-luck dinner
- attended by the host’s friends, neighbors, co-workers, and maybe a few fans of the artist
- performed by solo acts, duos, and small groups
- performed with a minimal sound system, or no amplification. Artists usually bring what they need.
- intimate — audiences sit close and are attentive
- stronger for artist merchandise sales than traditional venues
- Typically willing to house and feed the artist for the night
