Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art's ArtLab! We are grateful for any amount of time you are able to give to our active education program. At this time we have a variety of tasks that our volunteers participate in includes: art kit assembly, Look Inside school visits, Open Studios preparation, and materials organization.

Please keep in mind that engagements require roughly 90 minutes. Experience working with youth and good organization are always a bonus!

Merging the words “art” and “lab,” CMCA’s ArtLab education program emphasizes the experimental aspect of art making. The program encourages hands-on creating using a variety. Of materials and with minimal instructions, allowing participants to find their voice and experience the deep satisfaction of discovering their own creativity.

CMCA strongly believes that arts education raises an awareness of the visual world, and consequently, a greater appreciation for the stewardship of the environment. It routinely includes “an awareness of place” in ArtLab activities, acknowledging the connection between arts and the individual, particularly here in Maine.
