The Adopt-a-Stop program is currently open to civic associations, organizations, and individuals throughout the Richmond Region. Adopters must be 18 years or older to adopt a stop.
Bus Stop Adopter agrees to:
1. Adopt a bus stop for one year.
2. Regularly maintain the adopted bus stop by being responsible for litter pick-up at and around the bus stop (at least once a month, ideally more if needed). Adopters are responsible for disposal of collected litter.
3. Clean the glass on the bus shelter at least twice during the year of bus stop adoption (only applicable if adopting a bus stop that has a shelter with glass).
4. Inform RVA Rapid Transit when a litter pick-up occurs by texting a photo of the location and clean up to (804) 286-0007 or filling out the Adopter’s Diary at
rvarapidtransit.org/better-bus-stop.
5. Report any vandalism, safety issues, or items left at the bus stop to RVA Rapid Transit. Also report any suspicious packages, drug paraphernalia, and illegal looking items to RVA Rapid Transit as well; these items should not be handled by Adopters or any volunteers helping with adoption of a bus stop!
6. Sign and submit the “Adopt-a-Stop Assumption of Risk, Release of Liability, and Waiver of Claims and Indemnity Agreement.” Also ensure that any and all volunteers helping with your adopted bus stop sign and submit this volunteer waiver as well before participation in a clean-up. NOTE: If any volunteers are under 18, parents or guardians of those volunteers under 18 must fill out the parental permission form.
RVA Rapid Transit agrees to:
1. Pass on any information received from Adopter about any vandalism, safety concerns, or items left at the bus stop to GRTC, as well as information about any suspicious packages, drug paraphernalia, and illegal looking items to the appropriate authorities.
2. List the Adopter on RVA Rapid Transit’s website and press releases about the Adopt-a-Stop program (with permission from the Adopter).
3. Provide a wall certificate recognizing their efforts at the end of the year
(with permission from the Adopter).
