Picturing Baltimore, Community Photo Project

Welcome to Picturing Baltimore, a community photo project aimed at connecting diverse communities in Baltimore through the power of photography. Our project invites residents of Baltimore to share their stories and experiences through a series of photo workshops and exhibitions.

Picturing, Baltimore Photo Project works to divest in the photographic canon while simultaneously investing in underrepresented voices in the Baltimore community through the medium of photography.

There are no restrictions on what art the you as the participant can make with the disposable cameras!

As a participant you are able attend programming, including photography walks meeting at Black Artist Research Space. Local photographers and talented artists based in Baltimore will facilitate them. Workshops can help work through project ideas, learn more about photography and how to use other styles of cameras.

Once you are done shooting with the camera you will drop off your camera at NomuNomu (709 N Howard St, Baltimore, MD 21201) or Black Artists Research Space (426 W Franklin St, Baltimore, MD 21201) by July 31st(updated)

We will take care of the cost of developing the photographs, scanning and send you copies of the digital files as well as the physical negatives by request.

We will cover the cost of printing your photographs and will receive two prints.

We will display and showcase your work in a flat files exhibition and a curated photography show at NomuNomu and Black Artists Research Space.

Picturing Baltimore also involves the creation of two large-scale collages, 5’x8’ made by Rebecca Marimutu, which will include photographs by participants of Picturing Baltimore to ensure the project respects the history and culture of Baltimore.  (more info about Rebecca Marimutu at marimutu.com)
