SOUTH AFRICAN YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION PLAN STORY SUBMISSION FORM
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS 13 AUGUST 2021!
Storytelling is a mechanism for communication, a method to express lived experiences and helps to make sense of the world, our place in it and the varying factors that affect us. Climate change is a known threat to our physical world, our socio-economic structures, all living beings and our future but how has climate change impacted YOU?
This is where the art of storytelling comes in!
A process is currently being convened to develop the first South African Youth Climate Action Plan (YCAP). This document is envisioned to contain both a youth written climate declaration as well as showcase climate stories, art and media put forward by the youth of South Africa.
The YCAP process is being convened through the Youth Programmes at the South African Institute of International Affairs (Youth@SAIIA) in partnership with various organisations, schools, and university groups across South Africa.
Why are youth climate stories important in such a document?
Climate stories from the youth act as an eye-opener to the effects of climate change on people. It offers the opportunity to gain insight into the lived experiences of South African youth, to amplify their voice in expressive, creative ways and most importantly, helps to personalise climate change.
We are thus calling on YOU, the youth of South Africa, to submit your climate stories to us!
