Zero Robotics: 2024 Summer Program
Congratulations!  You and your students are being invited to participate in the 2024 Zero Robotics Summer Program where they will be given the opportunity to write code to control NASA's Astrobee satellites aboard the International Space Station! 

Sponsored by the Aerospace Corporation, NASA, and the ISS National Lab and operated by MIT Media Lab's Space Enabled Group with STEMx365 and the Innovation Learning Center - the Summer of 2024 is looking to be extremely competitive and very exciting.   If you wish to form a team and participate, we ask that you complete the initial registration (via this Google Form) no later than May 3, 2024.   If we do not receive a confirmation of your registration, we will open your spot up to another team on our waitlist.  Teams will be notified on a rolling basis.

ZR Program Description
Zero Robotics is a 5-week coding program in which middle school students (rising 5th graders through rising 9th graders) learn to program robotic satellites aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This program is FREE of charge and all educators & mentors receive a free coding curriculum, free teacher training and free technical assistance.  All you need to do to get started is (1) register your school/program/team by completing this application,  (2) identify a mentor or teacher to lead your team, (3) create a team of 7-20 students (4) make sure everyone has access to computers with internet access, and (5) create accounts to start writing code for satellites!

The competition starts online, where teams program the Astrobee Satellites to solve an annual challenge. After several phases of virtual competition in a simulation environment that mimics the real Astrobee, finalists are selected to compete in a live championship aboard the ISS. An astronaut conducts the championship competition in microgravity with a live broadcast to your school or community based organization.
ZR Program Dates
The ZR program will run from June 24 - August 2, 2024.  This competition will be in-person at your respective sites (with online/virtual flexibility) based on teacher and location availability.  We suggest 10 to 15hrs/week to ensure students are getting the best experience.

Your school/program has flexibility in terms of when and how you meet!
Whether you meet in-person, online or hybrid - or whether you meet 2 days a week or 5 days a week, all teams are encouraged to aim for 10-15hrs/week to ensure students are getting the best experience possible.

Teacher/Mentor Training:
MIT and ILC will be conducing in-person and online trainings for formal and informal educators.  These trainings will take play throughout May and in early June.  Please complete the training section below to assist us in planning sessions that best meet your needs.  Details of training will be sent out upon notification or your registration receipt.
