1. a. Open up the Native Lands map (https://native-land.ca/) and search for your city in the state of Nebraska. (Make sure territories are what is being shown) Which Native Tribe originally inhabited the area where your city now is located? *
1.b. Further examine the historic range of that tribe, Which tribes did their lands overlap with? (even just partially)
2. In the top left corner of the map turn off the "territories" layer and turn on the "languages" layer. Which language(s) did the tribes around the present day city you are researching speak?
3.a. In the top left corner of the map again turn off the "languages" layer and turn on the "Treaties" layer. What do you notice is the main difference between the treaties layer and the languages or territories layer?
3.b. Which Cession(s) led to the transfer of land from the original Native American inhabitants for the area where the city you are researching is now located?
3.c. Use the Indigenous Tribes Index page to search for your tribe (https://digitreaties.org/treaties/tribes/). Which Ratified Indian Treaties (RIT) have they been involved in?
3.d. Do some further research on the system of treaties and explain the significance of treaties in establishing relationships between the American Indian tribes and the United States Government. *
