COIN Teams
Below you'll find the preliminary description of the teams; they are likely to overlap in some respects. For example, as we identify bills that have particular resonance for the rural/urban divide, we will utilize them to push forward those conversations. Likewise, the AREA Team may want to create a sub-group to join the State Legislative Team to follow relevant bills during the Legislative session. And, people in the Rural/Urban Divide team may want to follow things like any rural broadband legislation that may be introduced. The work of the Revenue (timber severance tax) and Climate/Energy/Environment subgroups of the Legislative team is also likely to be relevant to the work of the Rural/Urban Team.

Once teams are formed, members may modify their team descriptions as they refine their missions.

The choice of teams are as follows:

Recruiting/Supporting Candidates Team: Steering Committee: Laura Allen, Margaret Foley, Ariel Knox & Beverly Sherrill
This team could help recruit candidates at all levels who believe in Indivisible’s values and help them prepare for 2022. This will be crucial for the Congressional District 2 and District 5 races and rural areas. We should look to the activists in our area to recruit as candidates.

Rural/Urban Divide Team: Melinda Fleming
This team will work on bridging the rural/urban and political divides. This team will be building on the work done by the Oregon Democracy Project and efforts to find ways to oppose Timber Unity in constructive ways. Working together we can change Oregon.

State Legislative Team - Team  Lead: Mary Chaffin
This team is at capacity & therefore CLOSED. However, some of the topic groups in the State Legislative Team engage in activities that are outside the scope of the State Legislative Team. If you are interested in working with the Climate/Energy/Environment group or the Immigration group on non-legislative matters, please contact Michael Heumann (heumanncycle@gmail.com) or Steve Mullinax (stevemullinax57@gmail.com) for the Climate/Energy/Environment group or Guy Nelson (gnelson181@aol.com) for Immigration.

Federal Team:
This team, led by Indivisible Oregon, has been researching federal issues and how they affect Oregon, and creating daily calls to action. This team will meet with our Senators and/or their staff on a regular basis to promote what policies and legislation we are advocating for and to support our Senators in their needs. They will also track the National calls to action; policy and sit on the NCN Policy Calls. The group members who best fit this group are extremely interested in policy and advocating at the federal level.

AREA - OR: Anti-Racist Education and Action Team: Briana Spencer & LaTonya Gibbs
This team could provide other teams and COIN members with resources on inclusivity and anti-racism. The team could support efforts to address race/equity issues and challenges faced by BIPOC and LGBTQ communities. As an example, the team could support Sen. Merkley's call to repeal slavery in the Oregon Constitution with the goal of amending the 13th Amendment to repeal remaining slavery in the US. The team could also help COIN member groups prioritize inclusivity and work to make groups inclusive.

Social Media Team - Team Lead: Ariel Knox
This team would coordinate COIN messaging & SM amplification in collaboration with DemCastOR, individual Indivisible groups & other affiliated groups where appropriate. They would recommend which groups were white listed for automatic amplification of their posts to keep the COIN audience engaged & engender goodwill with other orgs around the state. Members of this team could provide additional support to Indivisible groups in growing their own SM accounts.

Bentz Accountability - Team Lead: Terrie Martin
This group will focus on District 2's Congressman, Cliff Bentz. It will track his votes, his donors, his stands on the issues, his committee work, and his previous history as a state legislator. The group will use social media, campaigns and events to publicize what it finds. And it will work with the Rural-Urban Divide and Recruiting Candidates teams to work toward electing a Democrat in District 2 in 2022.
