Aim
This program provides students with the opportunity to meet new people and to talk in a safe environment.

Benefits
This program betters the student experience by:
Connecting students to students
Providing an activity with mental health benefits
Providing a fun outlet to both leaders and participants
Providing an excuse for students to socialise
Providing leadership opportunities to volunteers

Service Requirements
Both the participant and the facilitator require the following:
A computer with a camera and audio abilities
Internet Access
Zoom software has been downloaded and an account has been made

Session Dates
Weeks 0-3 (exacts days and times will be set by facilitators once availability is known.
Note: The end date is determined by the facilitator.

Facilitators Requirements
Be currently enrolled at Monash University, Clayton Campus.
Be a current MSA Volunteer. Apply here: http://msa.monash.edu/volunteers
Be a friendly person
Excellent communication skills
Have an understanding of the diversity of the student experience at Monash University
Be encouraging and supportive of all Monash students
An ability to keep level headed during stressful or trying situations
A willingness to abide by the rules and act in the spirit of the program
A good general knowledge of the MSA and University environment
Be an eager participant in all aspects of the program
Be a reliable, reasonable & responsible team player
Be able to act professionally to all Monash students and staff members
Be ambassadors for Monash University and MSA
A willingness to lead their friends and peers
Evidence that they are capable of taking a position of responsibility, and leadership
Have a good understanding of what services are provided by MSA and Monash University

Desired
Current Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training
Note: it is required that all sessions have at least one MHFA trained Facilitator

I don't have a MHFA?
No problem. All we require is that you complete the online mental health training called Changing Minds and Stress Management (through moodle), and that you review the 'Monash: helping friend and family through a crisis' website, which walks through an overview of how to talk and listen to someone who is dealing with a crisis. All must be completed before their first session.

Are these sessions recorded?
Yes, all sessions are recorded, including private sessions, for risk management purposes.
