We are excited to resume Honors Salons after several long COVID years! Honors Salons are Friday afternoon discussions with ISU faculty and staff...and a lot of popcorn. The format of the Honors Salons is similar to that of a miniature Honors seminar or TED talk, inviting an expert -- Honors alumni, ISU faculty and staff, friends of Honors, anyone who has a passion they would like to share with students -- to introduce a topic, give some background information or a short presentation, and then guide the discussion.
A few speakers/topics we’ve hosted have included:
• Professor William Jenks (Chemistry) explained the science of triathlons, and brought in his competition bike
• Professor James Alleman (Civil Engineering) talked about his work with the State Department in constructing the Chernobyl New Safe Confinement structure.
• Professor Anne Clem (Accounting) spoke about navigating your life and career as a Type A personality
• Professor Robert Wallace (Botany) drew a huge crowd by discussing the science of wine, beer, and spirits
• Professor Eulanda Sanders (Apparel, Merchandising, and Design) spoke about the nature of design and how it transcends boundaries
Do you have a professor, advisor, research mentor, or other staff who students would enjoy hearing from? Anyone with unique research, class topics, or hobbies? Include their names below so we can invite them in.
Please fill out one of these forms for each separate individual you're recommending as a speaker. THANK YOU!
