2023 BlakTinx LA Dance Festival:                                       Call for Submissions
Call to Artist for the 2023 BlakTinx Dance Festival Los Angeles, presented by Licia Perea/Latina Dance Project & Alicia Adams/Bootleg.

This years festival is an OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE opportunity sponsored by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in the historic south central Leimert Park Plaza.

The BlakTinx Dance Festival seeks applicants from Latinx and Black choreographers that are based in the greater Los Angeles area. The panel seeks rule breakers who are challenging the structures of contemporary dance through the fusions of styles, aesthetics, and innovative approaches that represent Latinx and Black dance.

LOCATION: OUTDOOR FESTIVAL in historic south central Leimert Park Plaza
DATE:  March 25, 2023
Mandatory Tech and dress rehearsal for all participants: On the day of performance
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 5th, 2023

THIS IS AN OUTDOOR FESTIVAL, so application and works must be geared towards being presented OUTSIDE!  We will have a marley floor and sound. The tech/dress will be the same day as performances. The festival will take place during the day so no lighting will be needed. We encourage you to get creative with costumes and or simple props to add to the performance being outdoorsWe will also be recording the performance and will post on the BlakTinx YouTube channel for those audience members who might not be able to join us.

WHO CAN APPLY:
Emerging and established Latinx and Black dance makers who are choosing to make dances of the non-traditional, cutting-edge, rule-breaking, avant-garde, out of this world, curious, experimental, abstract and who are tackling social justice issues in their dance works.

Dance makers must have produced and presented their own choreography in a non-student context for at least one year. We welcome all applicants from the greater Los Angeles area and our neighboring cities & counties.

ARTIST REQUIREMENTS
Artists are expected to present an original work up to 7 minutes in length.
Artists will be responsible for their company’s mandatory attendance to tech, run through
and performances - ALL HAPPENING ON THE SAME DAY.
Artists are required to regularly promote and announce the festival every month prior to the show and a week before the show through social media and email.
Work is encouraged to address the WHO CAN APPLY section stated above.
Artist who are submitting works in progress and are accepted must send us your completed piece two weeks prior to the performance date (3/11/23).  We will accept older works that fit the above criteria (no more than 7 minutes, outdoor compatible etc)

Honorarium: $300
Sound operator for tech and shows
Publicity & Marketing  

SELECTION PROCESS:
A panel will lead the selection process, which will include members of The Latina Dance Project, the Bootleg and with professional dance artists. The panel will make decisions based on quality, innovation, and the artist’s interest in the Festival.
