The Inclusive Design Lab is recruiting blind participants for 1.5 hour interviews over Zoom in September, 2021.
The aim of the interviews are to learn about totally blind people's: (A) understanding of visual privacy and familiarity with privacy-preserving techniques, and (B) preferences for how visual assistance technologies may be designed to preserve their privacy. Visual assistance technologies are applications that provide auditory descriptions of images and videos shared by people who are blind so they may access information about their surroundings. Examples of commonly used visual assistance technologies include: Aira, Be My Eyes, SeeingAI, TapTapSee, KNFB Money Reader, etc.
We are recruiting for up to 20 blind participants who are: (1) totally blind from acquired or congenital blindness, (2) who use a visual assistance technology on a weekly basis, and (3) are 18+ years old. This research is led by Dr. Abigale Stangl and Dr. Leah Findlater from the Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering at the University of Washington.
