Please read all the following information carefully. Remember to return your registration form with signed disclosure and guide membership form prior to training commencing.

NZRA River Rescue Training
Pre-requisite to training course. Equipment as per list.
4th/5th November - Meet at Firmin Lodge, Waterhouse Street, Kawerau at 8.00 am
River Rescue Training for the next two days.

6th November - Last day of River Rescue Training. This day works in with the rescue workshop allowing those of you who demonstrate competency to continue on and complete the workshop as well.

NZRA River Rescue Workshop

Pre-requisite to workshop: Equipment as per list. All participants will be required to show their personal skill level to be of a standard measurable against the new River Rescue US 26513 before continuing on with workshop. Please note for those who only book for the workshop, this level must be shown on the first day or workshop fee is non refundable. This platform level has been set to identify that all participants are suitably skilled to participate in the activities of the workshop.

6th November -  Meet at Firmin Lodge, Waterhouse Street, Kawerau at 8.00 am
7th/8th November - Objective to increase personal and industry knowledge of River Rescue skills. Participants will be put into ability groups and undertake work stations.

Work stations may include (but not limited to):
First Aid
Underwater
Vertical Hoist
Entrapments – using crafts and rope systems, knifes
Other platforms ie: safety kayakers, river boarders, victim and gear retrieval
Olympic type scenarios – debriefing
There may be some requirements for evenings sessions for First Aid – attendance will be required in order to obtain a refresher certificate.

COST for NZRA Members (Memberships run from 1st October to 30th September each year and costs $23.00 inclusive)
3 day training or workshop $525.00 GST incl
Full week training and workshop $800.00 GST incl

COST for non NZRA Members
3 day training or workshop $650.00 GST incl
Full week training and workshop $1050.00 GST incl

Included in Fees:
All rafting equipment excluding guides personal gear
All lunches -NB: Accommodation, breakfast and evening meal will be at participants own expense.
Facilitation/Instruction and First Aid Refresher for those undertaking the Workshop

Accommodation: 
Accommodation is available at Firmin Lodge where we will base for the week and is right beside the river.  It provides excellent cooking facilities, hot showers and bunkroom accommodation to those that book in only.
Please note there is NO freedom camping however there's an option for certified self contained vehicles, no charge for 3 nights.  

Firmin Lodge - $35.00 per person/night for shared bunkroom  -  Book in with Raewyn - nzrivers@nzrivers.co.nz.  Payment will be required prior to arrival.

Please email Raewyn if you have a certified self contained vehicle you wish to camp in.

We have the opportunity to use the facilities at a reduced rate courtesy of the Kawerau District Council so hope you will join us.    It's an excellent facility for events -  www.kaweraunz.com/explore/kawerau-adventure-hub/firmin-lodge and you are encouraged to share it on social media.

For those participating in the Training we will have some equipment available for purchase but please let us know when registering what you may require.  Payment is cash on receipt.

Please find enclosed a course enrolment form along with guide membership form, please complete and sign the declaration at the bottom.

These must be returned to us before arrival at the workshop. Completion of this confirms your place at the course.

Payment for the course and enrolment with NZRA must be made prior to Training/Workshop commencement unless prior arrangement has been made with NZRA. Remember memberships run from 1 October – 30 September each year.

Risk Disclosure:

Due the nature of the Training and Workshop activities, a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability is required. Whitewater Rescue activities may include accessing locations in and around rapids without using watercraft, swimming Whitewater rapids up to Grade 3, use of ropes and setting mechanical advantage systems in and around whitewater rapids, use of rafts and kayaks for travel, access, and transport on whitewater up to Grade 5.

Hazards include but are not limited to entanglement, entrapment, use of knives, unintentional swims, flips, and raft wraps, aspiration of water, Natural hazards including rock falls, adverse weather events, and flooding. Risks include physical or emotional harm, serious injury, drowning or death.
