Speaker:
Eric Kemp, Team Canada National Senior Squad Athlete | Map Maker | Course Setter
Meeting Outline:
Have you ever been course setting and asked yourself:
How do I make this challenging? Can I still set an interesting course on what looks like basic terrain? Do long adventure races have to have boring navigation?
What type of checkpoints should I use? How can I create a challenging event for everyone, especially experts?
Expect answers to all these questions and more on April 17 when
National Team member Eric Kemp presents "Technique
for Advanced Course Setting".
Orienteering Canada and Orienteering Ontario are pleased to offer this webinar.
Eric will dissect advanced Orienteering
ideas and how to integrate them into your courses. He draws from 15
years of international racing experience including 12 IOF World
Championships. As a course setter he has organized events across
Canada, most notably in 2022 for the Ottawa O-Fest.
This webinar builds
on expert Mike Waddington's "Constructing and Deconstructing
Orienteering Courses"
available here. Expect topics such as: risk and reward, inter-course interactions, in-between places and lines in the terrain. This will be great for not only race organizers, but also Orienteers and Adventure Racers to better understand how events are organized and what the course planning is thinking.
