The Region 9 School Based Health Center is exploring how to best offer physical health care in our districts. Options include expansion of telemedicine and a mobile health van both of which would offer students the ability to meet with a physician for sick visits, acute care, primary care, well child checks, sports physicals, and confidential* sexual health care.**+
*New Mexico State Law (24-1-9 NMSA 1978, 24-1-13.1 NMSA 1978, 24-8-5 NMSA 1978) affords the right of a person at any age to consent to their own confidential sexual health care with a licensed health care provider.
**Individual schools may elect to limit the services provided at their location.
+While parental consent is not required for confidential care, providers at the R9 SBHC always encourage students to talk to their parents/guardians about their healthcare needs.
