Solidarity, not Austerity! Help TAU stop the cuts!
The graduate student workers of the Teaching Assistants Union (TAU) at Western Michigan University are concerned about the proposed 17% cut to the teaching assistant portion of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) budget. Teaching assistants are a vital piece of the university's workforce, serving as both students and teachers, but administration has treated us with disrespect by proposing these cuts without any communication or consultation with our union.

This cut would hurt graduate employees, who are among the lowest paid workers on campus, and would unfairly increase the workload of part-time instructors and tenured faculty. It would also impact our undergraduate students through increased class sizes. Add your signature to show that you support TAU's demands: 1. That CAS reverses its proposed budget cuts; and 2. That future planning and decision-making around the TA budget is transparent and TAU leaders are consulted.
