Art Shanty Projects intentionally creates an impermanent art village on Minnesota lake ice amid changing climate and environment. With a spirit of embracing challenges through creativity, we support an ecosystem that inspires everyone to create and participate in art, thrive in winter, and build community.
Art Shanty Projects 2023 will be
Saturdays and Sundays January 21st - February 12th from 10am-4pm.
Our volunteer shifts are blocked in
4 hour intervals for
morning shifts from 9:30am-1:30pm and
afternoon shifts from 12:30pm-4:30pm.
Art Shanty Projects is located on Bde Umáŋ/Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, MN. Volunteer jobs are outside and the temperature will be chilly so remember to bundle up!
We need volunteers to do roles such as welcoming people at our gate, navigating people to the ice from the parking lot, answering general questions people may have, managing our kicksleds for a fun and also ADA accessible way on to the ice, and many more! As we plan for an in-person festival with COVID safety measures, additional volunteer roles will be needed to support these protocols. We ask that all volunteers be fully vaccinated and prepared to wear a mask. If you are not vaccinated, we ask that you show a negative COVID test result from within 72 hours of your volunteer shift.
PERKS: Volunteers get free parking and hot food and beverages on the day they volunteer, invitations to special member/artist events (Member Night on Ice & Artist Wrap Party), and are not expected to make a monetary contribution at the gate (on their volunteer date or any date they choose to visit).
