This year there will be two hikes. The first hike to the Manistee River Trail($50) is June 27-29 and is intended for beginners typically 5th or 6th grades. It involves 2 days of hiking 3-4 miles each day.  The second hike to the UP($90) which includes some of my favorite places will take place July 17-20. This hike is generally for students who have already gone on a hike or are in middle school.
The Manistee hike is one where we leave at 9:00 am on Thursday, drive a couple hours before stopping for lunch. Then we finish our drive to Red Bridge, southwest of Mesick. We spot vehicles and hike approximately 4 miles to camp.  When we get to camp we set up our tents, gather wood, and either explore or play by the river. The rest of the day consists of eating supper and free time. Friday morning we get up to a good breakfast of pancakes, move some vehicles to the next site, and try breaking camp by 10 a.m. After another easy hike of 3-4 miles we arrive at camp, set up camp again, and have the rest of the day for free time.  Saturday, we get up on time, eat a quick donut, pick up camp, and head to a gas station for snacks. We then drive home trying to be back by noon.
The second hike will be going to some new places.  We will leave Wednesday and drive up to Big Eric's Bridge State Park where we will set up camp. From here we will be driving and hiking to remote falls in the area. Then we may end by visiting Canyon Falls and camping overnight at Sturgeon Falls on Friday.
For both hikes I have backpacks, cooking gear, and water purifiers where needed. Your money will cover the cost of transportation, gear purchase or maintenance,  a t-shirt, and main meals and snacks at night.  Additional costs for you will be a one meal on the way there and  one or two on the way back. You should also take daily snacks for between meals and while hiking. One person from each group will need to have a tent for the group. On the Manistee Hike hike the tent doesn’t need to be carried very far so weight or size is not an issue.  On the Sturgeon hike we will have to carry the tent and gear down 3/4 of a mile and back up again Saturday. Wednesday and Thursday evenings we will have our vehicles by camp. More info will be provided in an update after I know how many are going.

Here is the link to those signed up.  I will try updating every evening.
