MODArts Dance Collective's Me < We: a two weekend workshop application
Me < We: a two weekend workshop is an extension of Me < We: a Works In Progress (WIP) Showing. The Me < We workshop is a cultural affirming space for young BIPOC female identifying teenage artists ages 12-18 to develop their technical skills as dancers and create choreography with an underlying theme of community. Eight to twelve young artists will be chosen to participate while practicing social distancing along with the usage of mask coverings at all times, as well as build more authentic relationships with their peers, teaching artists, & workshop facilitator. This workshop consists of:

​* 30 minutes of journaling or drawing (journals, notebooks, and pens will be provided)

* One 60-minute Contemporary or Modern class

* 60 minutes of round table discussions and a call to action (CTA) of solutions formulated by the participating artists to integrate into their lives and communities to form a better world

* 30 minutes of creating choreography based on community

This free workshop will be offered on June 18-19 & 25-26, 2022 11AM - 2PM at Go Hard Dance Studio, 2307 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, New York, NY 10030. All participants are asked to attend all four days of the workshop. The purpose of the Me < We workshop is to provide young artists access to technical and creative resources to assist in strengthening their voices. The goal of the Me < We workshop is to provide a safe and open space for young BIPOC female identifying teenage artists ages 12-18 to build a cohesive, sustainable circle of peers, strengthen their artistic voices, and realize that their voices are necessary to change the world.

The 2022 open submission call is Monday, April 18 - midnight EST on Friday, June 10th. Eight to twelve young artists will be selected by lottery. All artists will be notified by midnight EST on Monday, June 13, 2022.

The Collective Thread Residency is supported in part through a one time grant as a Dance NYC Dance Advancement Fund Runner Up.
