AVCon 2024 Indie Games Room (IGR) Application
Welcome to the AVCon 2024 IGR Application form!

The AVCon Indie Games Room (IGR) was one of Australia's first events to spotlight locally developed indie game projects. It has provided developers a platform to show off, get feedback, or sell their games for over ten years. The AVCon IGR is supported by the University of South Australia.

The IGR will run during AVCon at the Adelaide Showground on the 29th and 30th of June 2024 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm with the option to exhibit during the new version of AVCon's 'After Dark'.

The IGR will create special promotional videos with interested developers before and after AVCon.

Applications are open until May 25th 2024, at 7:00 pm. Applications will be evaluated and accepted as they are received. Although there should be capacity for all projects that apply, we cannot guarantee that, as space restrictions may arise if there is more demand than expected. All developers are encouraged to submit their applications promptly.

Please read through this application very carefully and answer the questions to the best of your ability. We will only accept one application per game. Please discuss with any team members or managers and decide on a person to submit a single application.

Your IGR setup can be built to your specifications and may include a standard 180cm x 76cm trestle table, table cloth, 2m x 2.4m Velcro Backing Board or 2m metal display truss with 127cm TV.

If you have any queries or concerns, please email igr@avcon.org.au to clarify before starting your application. If you have made any mistakes but have already submitted your application, please email igr@avcon.org.au with corrections rather than submit a new application.

To apply for AVCon IGR, you must meet the following conditions:
  • Be an independent developer with no funding from or ties to a commercial entity (public crowdsourcing or government grants are permissible) or a student at a registered education provider.
  • Be based in and operate out of Australia or New Zealand.
  • Have developed a video game that is in a playable form and would provide a player with a realised experience of your intended gameplay, graphics and sound.
  • Be able to travel to and from the event with all required equipment at your own expense, including all transportation, storage and accommodation costs.
  • Be able to supply all of your own hardware and software required to run your video game.
  • Be able to effectively supervise and demonstrate your video game throughout all hours of AVCon 2024 is open (including After Dark if selected).
  • All content in your video game project must be suitable for a general audience and cannot contain any material considered violent, sexual or politically motivated to the point a reasonable individual would deem it to require a mature rating.
  • Agree to AVCon's Exhibitor Terms and Conditions.

The application process will require details about your team and project, including experience, affiliations and related media.

For your application to be considered complete, applicants must email at least five screenshots of your game to igr@avcon.org.au. Please write 'IGR Application for ' and then the exact same name entered for 'Game Name' field for the subject line, e.g. 'IGR Application for Mary's Game'.

Spots at the AVCon IGR are offered for free and teams will be able to demonstrate their games for testing, gather feedback, build awareness and make monetary sales for their game or related merchandise.

AVCon After Dark

AVCon will be running a new version of our popular AVCon After Dark event on Saturday, June 29th, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. This event will take place at the same venue as AVCon (Jubilee Pavilion, Adelaide Showgrounds) but will be restricted to attendees over 18 years of age.

Demonstrating your game at After Dark is optional, but if you wish to opt in, you will gain four extra hours to showcase and have the ability to have builds or aspects of your game with content meant for an adult audience.

Answering 'Yes' to After Dark and then not having your game running during the event without a satisfactory reason may result in you not being considered for future AVCon events.
