SOPHIA FAHS CAMP COVENANT

All campers, adults, and volunteers must sign this covenant as a family unit (type in lieu of a signature)

Please review with your child campers prior to coming to camp

***Children’s covenant (up to and including rising 5th graders)***

BE MYSELF: This means, I will join in the activities. I will try to be as friendly as I can to the others here.  I will not bring anything here that might hurt another person or myself.

BE THERE FOR OTHERS: I will share and be honest with the others here.  I will not pick on anyone or stand by while someone gets picked on.  I will try to do something to help that person. I will use words that are respectful to children and adults.  I will take turns.  I will not hit anyone if I get angry.  I will ask the adults here to help me, if I need help for any reason.

TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT:  I am an invited guest here at Sophia Fahs RE Camp. I will clean up my messes and help to clean up messes with the group. I will not destroy property here.  I will follow all safety rules.  I WILL NOT LEAVE THE CAMP without permission.

BE FRIENDLY TO ALL CHILDREN HERE:  In the outside world there are people who are not nice to me and may not accept me.  I will accept ALL people here.  I remember all the good times I have had with my friends.  I think of the times I have been alone and a friendly and invitation meant so much to me. That is why I will welcome and be friendly to all new people here.

INCLUDE EVERYONE:  It is NOT OK to play with or talk to ONLY my special best friends here.  I can arrange a play date on the outside for that.  This is the time to reach out to each and every child I happen to meet, playing, learning and making memories together.

***Youth covenant (rising 6th-12th graders)***

WE PROMOTE INCLUSIVE BEHAVIOR. Sophia Fahs RE Camp provides an atmosphere where all are to feel safe, accepted and included at all times.  Behavior, which excludes another, takes away from this sense of community.

With the goals of safety and community in mind, campers are not to leave the grounds of the camp and rules concerning the waterfront must be honored.

WE PROMOTE RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR.  “No harshing on the mellows.”   Sophia Fahs RE Camp is a place where all are encouraged and empowered to express themselves. This requires the mutual responsibility to be respectful towards each other. The space we are in must be respected and cared for; everyone will participate in cleanup of all areas of camp.

WE ENCOURAGE OPEN-MINDEDNESS. Sophia Fahs RE Camp fosters an open community where people who are different as well as similar are welcome. Campers will try to remain open to growing in unexpected ways through the love and challenges experienced during camp.

SEXUALIZED BEHAVIOR IS NOT ALLOWED. Exclusive relationships prevent our community from being inclusive and safe for all.  Sexualized or intimate behavior is not permitted anywhere any time at camp.

POSSESSION OR USE OF ECIGS, VAPING PRODUCTS, or TOBACCO PRODUCTS, DRUGS (ILLEGAL OR PRESCRIBED), OR ALCOHOL ARE PROHIBITED.

VIOLENCE AND ABUSE ARE UNACCEPTABLE. No forms of violence:  physical, verbal, sexual or other manifestation will be tolerated. Weapons are not permitted and possession will be viewed as intending or ignoring the possibility of a violent outcome. No one can vouch for how others will behave if they were to mistakenly come into possession of a weapon. Any weapons will be confiscated and the camper will be sent home immediately.

I have read and understand this code of behavior, and I agree to abide by these rules and guidelines for my behavior.

ALL CAMPERS—please note.  ALL CAMPERS must have adult supervision AT ALL TIMES.  Please consider this when deciding to submit your application to come to camp.

*** Adult covenant (age 18 and over) ***

Adults and older youth in leadership roles are stewards playing a key role in fostering the spiritual development of the community.  It is, therefore, important that they be qualified to provide children and youth with the nurture, care and support for a positive sense of self and a spirit of independence and responsibility.

The relationship between young people and their leaders must be one of mutual respect for a positive potential to be realized. There are no more important areas of growth than those of self-worth and the development of a healthy identity as a sexual being. Adults play a key role in assisting children and youth in these areas of growth. Wisdom dictates that children, youth and adults suffer damaging effects when leaders become sexually involved with young persons in their care; therefore, leaders will refrain from engaging in sexual, seductive or erotic behavior or language with children and youth.  Neither shall they sexually harass or engage in behavior, which constitutes verbal, emotional, or physical abuse.

In addition, the Camp Advisory Committee requires all staff to refrain from smoking, vaping, or using any illegal substances on campgrounds. We are demanding this behavior of our youth and we are asking our staff to model this commitment.   We thank you in advance for your cooperation and look forward to creating a very special experience together at camp

By signing below, you acknowledge that you have been informed of this Code of Ethics, and agree to it, before assuming any role at camp.  In cases of violation of this code, appropriate action will be taken.

All adults and children must understand, agree, and type in lieu of signing.

We have read and understand the above statements of position, expectations and actions.

Please have all adult, volunteer, and children campers names listed:
