The Desmond Tutu Centre for Religion and Social Justice convenes its annual Economies of Violence public lecture in the month of August in recognition and commemoration of National Women’s Day and the Marikana massacre. These lectures scrutinise the “economies of violence” which continues to shape access to justice such as gender, religion, race and class and which sustains the indignity and the poverty that women, people of colour and marginalized men in South Africa disproportionately experience.
