LVW Code of Conduct
Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin, by its very nature, is a group that appears before hundreds of thousands of people each year. This means we are witnesses for our Lord and Savior to all these people. Whatever we do, whatever we say, reflects on Jesus. It is to be hoped that all of us, as adopted members of God's own family, will want to conduct ourselves so the light of our faith may "shine before men, that they may see [our] good deeds and praise [our] Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

When a student participates in Lutheran Vanguard, that student has chosen to use his or her God-given talents and abilities in such a way as to be an effective witness for Christ. As Christians, we recognize the fact that effective witnessing takes place with what we do as much as with what we say. We want our actions, therefore, to be a reflection of our faith.

Even though we are members of God's family, we still remain human beings and sinners, continually tempted to act outside the bounds of Christian living. And yet, while all of us are human and all of us will fall to temptation time and again, we must realize there are certain actions which have no place in a group such as ours. These actions reflect poorly not only on the individual, but also on the group, and most especially on
our Savior, and will neither be condoned nor tolerated.

Necessary disciplinary measures will be handled in such a way as to show our love and concern for the individual and for the group. Most actions requiring such discipline can be handled within the group. There are actions, however, which will mean a student's immediate dismissal from the group for the remainder of the season:

1. Coming to any rehearsal, parade or tour under the influence or in possession of any illegal drug, or found in possession of or using any such drug while with the Vanguard;

2. Coming to any rehearsal, parade or tour under the influence or in possession of any alcoholic beverage, or found in possession of or using alcohol while with the Vanguard;

3. Smoking, chewing or possession of tobacco products while with the Vanguard.

4. In addition, if a student's attitude and/or conduct is such as to be repeatedly at odds with the goals, methods, and/or spirit of the Vanguard, that student may be asked to leave for the good of the group.

If a student is asked to leave our group for one of the four reasons stated above, that student will be sent home via the most expedient mode of travel (fastest and safest) from wherever Lutheran Vanguard is located at that time, accompanied by a chaperon or a director.

Financial Impact in Dismissal Situations

1. The dismissed student and or the student’s family are responsible for any costs incurred in transporting the student and the accompanying adult to the student’s home.

2. None of the monies paid to Lutheran Vanguard by a dismissed student or his family will be refunded.

Our guidelines cannot list all the "do's" and "don'ts" of Christian living. Please be aware, however, that because a point is not in print does not mean it does not exist or does not  apply. Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin is first and foremost an organization dedicated to the glory of God and the good of our young people. With this in mind, each student will also be encouraged to dedicate his thinking, speaking, and living to God's glory and
to the building- up of his fellow-students.
