The CTU-CPS High School MOA is clear:
https://www.ctulocal1.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/MOA-HS-Addendum.pdfIt states: "A teacher (including clinicians) whose schedule involves a full day of remote instruction and whose school has insufficient staff space for the teacher to work that is both safe and conducive to effective instruction, may work remotely on those days with the approval of their principal or supervisor, which shall not be unreasonably withheld. Disputes may be referred to the District-level Safety Committee. The District- level Safety Committee shall also review staff social distancing and space concerns in prep areas, teacher workrooms, classrooms, and other staff spaces and shall determine whether a school and a teacher qualify for a remote work exemption."
Principals ARE allowed to approve high school teachers and clinicians to work remotely on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday if their students are remote and their work space is not safe or conducive to their work. We know that principals are telling members that they do not have this power to approve and we have filed a grievance to help enforce our agreement.
We need members to take disputes to their School Safety Committee and refer to our District-wide Safety Committee, but also share details here so we can strengthen our enforcement efforts.
