Food Scrap Drop-Off Registration
Thank you for your interest in participating in the Asheville City and Buncombe County Food Scraps Drop-Off Pilot Program. *This program is for RESIDENTIAL USE ONLY. Businesses and organizations should contact compost vendors if interested.

There are currently eight food scrap drop-off locations. Details on facility hours and what compostable materials are allowed are below, available on the city and county composting websites, and will be emailed after registration is submitted.

Once registered, participants have access to all listed locations.

1) Stephens-Lee Recreation Center, 30 George Washington Carver Ave, Asheville

2) Murphy Oakley Recreation Center and Library complex, 749 Fairview Road, Asheville

3) Skyland/South Buncombe Library, 260 Overlook Rd, Asheville
 
4) West Asheville Library, 942 Haywood Rd, Asheville

5) East Asheville Library, 3 Avon Road, Asheville

6) Leicester Library, 1561 Alexander Road, Leicester

7) Buncombe County Landfill, 85 Panther Branch Road, Alexander

8) Buncombe County Transfer Station (Please only use this site if you're already planning a trip to the Transfer Station for other waste disposal or recycling, it can be very congested in the lot!), 190 Hominy Creek Rd, Asheville

All locations are open to both City and County registered residents.

Please complete this form to help us track our outreach efforts and the impact of our food scrap diversion. Once you submit this form, you'll receive a welcome email with a combo lock code to access all locations that have locks. No combo or lock information is required to drop off scraps at the Landfill or Transfer Station.

Accepted Items:
*All food scraps including egg shells, fruit peels, dairy, meats, fish, etc
*Compostable paper products (YES- food soiled paper, greasy cardboard, compostable to-go containers, shredded paper - NO metal or plastic film coating)
*Compostable plastics
*Pizza boxes

NOT Accepted Items:
*Plastic bags and wrappers
*Plastic-coated (Shiny) take-out boxes or plates
*To-go hot and cold drink cups that are not specifically marked 'compostable'

In partnership with NCDEQ, The City of Asheville and Buncombe County are happy to offer FREE kitchen counter top food scrap collection bins (while supplies last).  Bins ARE NOT mailed to participants. Location pickup details will be included in the welcome email.
