We/I support the resident led efforts calling for a public comment period at Cleveland City Council meetings.
An open and transparent government is critical to building a robust and durable democracy. We/I strongly believe that a public comment period will lead to a more engaged public and improved public policy outcomes in Cleveland.
This is an important budget neutral reform to democratize the practices of City Council. Moreover, the adoption of a public comment period will better align us with other cities from Akron to Columbus in Ohio to larger cities nationally, including: Chicago, New York and Seattle.
We/I urge City Council to act quickly in implementing a public comment period in 2021.
