Parents play a critical role in supporting our middle school students during their culminating years at PES. It’s an important time for social and emotional development. For many years, the Class Advising system and the partnership between parents, students and the school has provided opportunities for meaningful collaboration and activities that allow students to explore friendships and interests in non-academic and non-athletic contexts.
Parents, in partnership with faculty advisor(s) and students set goals for class events and fundraising and then plan and supervise a variety of events and activities that foster a sense of pride, belonging, and ownership as our middle school students work towards their 8th-grade celebrations and trip. While the 8th Grade trip is the culminating experience, the lasting outcome is the community-building that takes place through the following:
Three to four class activities per year; at least one community service, one team-building, and one fundraising each year.
Predictable fundraising activities by grade that support students in raising the funds without reinventing the wheel or "over-fundraising" as a community.
Annual parent meetings to cultivate community and keep everyone informed of progress towards fundraising goals and expectations for that year.
Emily Marazzo and Karry Smardon have stepped up to work with a staff advisor, Beth Clifton, and myself to help schedule and organize all of these events and activities. That said, it is expected that ALL parents will pitch in. Please let us know which events and activities you are willing to lead and/or assist.
