MN GreenStep Schools-Project Story Form
Use this form to document your MN GreenStep project. Use a new form for each new project. Note that often the best solutions solve many challenges at once. This form, allows you to list multiple best practice actions that your project achieved. For example, the MN GreenStep Schools program encourages the integration of environmental education best practices with other best practices to achieve facility or programmatic improvements in environment or health. If your school planted a rain garden, and involved youth, or involve youth in educational programming about the rain garden, then you might want to tell a story of the rain garden and its educational integration in one place, but count it toward multiple best practice actions in both environment and environmental education categories.

The content from your Project Story form will be included in your MN GreenStep Schools Page. The documentation of your project serves three main purposes. First, the documentation demonstrates successful completion to GreenStep program staff to preserve the integrity of the program, and provide recognition for school accomplishments*.  Second, the documentation, which can be viewed by the public, serves as a story of school greening so students, staff, and community can take pride in the accomplishments. Thirdly, the documentation supports a statewide community of people invested in green schools that share their stories of what they accomplished, how they did it, struggles they faced and how they overcame them, as well as the benefits they received. All three purposes should be considered while completing the documentation. Depending on the project, the documentation task could be an opportunity for students to interview the team to document the story.

FAQ: What if my school is not in the MN GreenStep Schools program? Can I still submit a project story?
A: Yes, you can as an independent contributor.
MN GreenStep Schools encourages using this project story form for any school related project that relates to the MN GreenStep Schools best practices. This helps you tell your story to inspire and help others. If you are not in the GreenStep Schools program, there are fewer required fields, although please fill in as much information to be as helpful as possible to other schools. If your school later joins the program, you may need to fill in more details in the form for the project story to count toward project recognition. Fields optional for independent contributors are noted - just leave them blank or say N/A and they will not be listed in your project story.

General Information
Name the Project *
This can be descriptive, and/or creative (Eg. "Rain Garden at Aspire Elementary" or "Butterfly River Quest") [Limit 100 characters]
Location(s) of the Project *
List the school(s) or district facilities where the project took place. Teams may decide whether to describe a project for multiple locations, or share a different project story for each location. For example, a district putting in LED parking light fixtures across all its facilities, might choose to describe this as a single project with multiple locations. But multiple student-led energy savings campaigns in different schools might each have their own project story. If a story is for multiple schools or locations, they will all gain credit for the associated best practices.
Achieved Best Practice Actions *
List the number and name of the best practice actions met by this project. (Where a best practice is not divided into numbered best practice actions, just reference the best practice.) See the Best Practice sections listed on the MN GreenStep Schools website for reference.

For independent contributors, please enter N/A and see next question.
Relevant Best Practice Actions *
List the number and name of the best practice actions relevant to this project. (Where a best practice is not divided into numbered best practice actions, just reference the best practice.) See the Best Practice sections listed on the MN GreenStep Schools website for reference.

For official program participants, please enter N/A and see next question.
Best Practice Data *
For some best practices, there is specific data to be submitted. (For example gallons per minute in new low-flow water faucets). Review the best practice requirements and submit required data here. You may enter it below and/or upload a file documenting the data.

For independent contributors, this is optional. Please put N/A if you don't have anything to list.
Project Story - Narrative
In the following sections you will tell the story of your project. Be clear, specific, and explain any special terms. Write for a non-technical audience, and consider the many students that would like to read this story. There will be a place at the end to upload supplemental files if you would like to share more specialized or technical information with your peers across the state.
Short Summary *
Summarize your project in 500 characters. This will be used for initial viewing of your project along with the title and picture.
Featured Picture
Upload a featured picture. Ideally the picture will include both the team and the project or be a photo collage combining these two images. This will be the main picture that is seen with your project story. Keep in mind that the images may be viewed in small size, so make sure they look good when small. Also keep in mind that smaller image file size works better on the web. Please do not send image files larger than 1 MB in size.

Equity and Diversity Practices *

Note that new policies or significant efforts on a project may be able to earn credit as a best practice under “0.4 Equity And Diversity: District/School Proactively plans for equitable and diverse participation in the program and projects.” That best practice will also be where resources and examples of other schools work in this area can be found.
Results *
What results do you expect? What means to monitor results do you have in place? What results have been shown so far?

Benefits (to school and wider community) *
Describe the benefits anticipated and achieved if known considering these categories: Educational Benefits, Engagement /Culture Benefits, Health Benefits, Monetary Benefits, Environmental Impact Benefits.
Education Connections *
If the project was integrated with educational efforts either generally or as part of curriculum, describe this integration, and identify any curriculum used. Note that school-based environmental education can also be counted under environmental education bet practice actions. Clarify if the educational connections were informational, or if students were engaged as participants in some way in planning, implementing, monitoring, or communicating the results of the project.
